Spectral by Shannon Duffy

Goodreads Summery : Convinced she’s a part of the witness protection program, sixteen-year-old Jewel Rose is shuffled around the globe with her family like a pack of traveling gypsies. After arriving at lucky home twenty-seven, she stumbles upon a mysterious boy with magical powers claiming to be her guardian . . . and warning of imminent danger. Despite the obvious sparks between them, Jewel discovers a relationship is forbidden, and the more she learns about dark, brooding Roman, she begins to question who she can even believe—the family who raised her, or the supposed sworn protector who claims they’ve been lying to her all along.

As she struggles to uncover who her family has really been running from, she is forced to hide her birthmark that reveals who she is. With new realities surfacing, unexplained powers appearing, and two tempting boys vying for her heart, Jewel battles to learn who she can trust in an ever growing sea of lies, hoping she’ll make it through her seventeenth birthday alive.

My Rating : 4 of 5 stars

My Thoughts : Convinced she is a part witness protection program; Jewel’s life is all about moving from one place to another, one school to other. Tired of living this live, Jewel has stopped questioning. Being born in total lunar eclipse which was same time as the full moon during summer solstice, Jewel Rose is a very special girl who is destined to be powerful all on her seventeenth birth day and witches from other covens are after her life. Not knowing how much danger she is in, Jewel tried to adjust her new life in Pomona Park. Soon she meets sweet and handsome Chase who seems genuinely interested in her, also dark and charming Roman who claims to be her guardian. Whom she will trust when her own family is keeping secrets from her?

Spectral is an absolute thrilling and full of suspense, once you start reading; it’s difficult to put it back. Witches and witchcrafts is something I have always taken interest and Spectral holds me attention by some spell. It was wonderfully written and prefect paced smooth going novel.

The Plot is twisty with great amount of action and romance. As we progressed with the story, all mystery revolved around Jewel starts to unravel and left me gasped. Struggling with secrets that her family is keeping from her, Jewel started to seek for the truth about her heritage and her real identity. Brave, determine and so caring, Jewel is amazing character. I bet if I were in her place, I would have shown same curiosities in discovering the truth like she did and I loved her, I really did for what she is.
Speaking of male protagonists, there are two of them and each played important role in the story. Total swoon worth, mysterious and dark, Roman has his own secrets. Chemistry was hot between Roman and Jewel that added flavor of forbidden romance. There was charming Chase who is loving and sweet, always there for Jewel.

Spectral is another amazing addition to paranormal genre, an impressive one. I was shocked and surprised with ups and downs on each of the pages. Spectral is an interesting and original novel worth reading.
